Talent travels. Belonging takes longer.
At fifteen, Alexis is a promising student at Cuba’s National Ballet School. When his family moves to the United States, he must begin again—leaving teachers, friends, and a first love while holding on to the ambition that has shaped his life.
Filmed over five years, Roberto Salinas’ documentary follows that transition through the physical language of dance and the experience of growing up between cultures. Andrea contributed as associate producer to the international production, made by Indyca with Rai Cinema, Filmoption, and Valdivia Film.
Cuban Dancer was a joint winner of the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2021 San Francisco International Film Festival.
The film was also included in SFFILM’s Schools at the Festival programme, bringing its story of artistic commitment, migration, and identity to young audiences.
